The Best Beatles Songs (In My Opinion) Part 4

This is part 4 of a 4 part blog.
Part 1 part 2 part 3

Here he are at last, folks, the creme de la creme. The best there is in Beatles music. I will admit, I have a list and as I’m typing, I’m checking off my least favorite song. But these last 15 may give me a fit. I know what number 1 is, but here goes nothing….

15. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Lyric Video
A concept album? Yes please. This is both the title track and the first song introducing you to the lead singer, Billy Shears.

14. With A Little Help From My Friends Lyric Video
This is the next song after your introduction to Billy Shears. The classic song every pot smoker on earth knows, but it is a great song, drug references aside. Joe Cocker famously covered it, hear it here. He even sang it at Woodstock!

13. Lady Madonna Lyric Video
Another story song, “why you have so many kids and how do you feed them all?” In today’s world the answer would be food stamps.

12. Yesterday Lyric Video
I know what you are thinking, how is this not in the top ten? It is a wonderful song lamenting a lost love, but it got entirely overplayed for me once upon a time, and I still love it, but not as much as I once did.

11. I Want You (She’s So Heavy) Lyric Video
I was never a huge fan of this until I watched Across The Universe. The image they show of soldiers singing this while supporting the weight of the Statue of Liberty on their backs (symbolizing America’s freedom) made me LOVE it. Here’s the movie version here.

10. Something Lyric Video
Amazing song. An ode to a lover. Words can’t describe the awesomeness.

9. The Fool On The Hill Lyric Video
I have always loved this song, even though it wasn’t a huge hit for the band. There’s different way it can be interrupted, but I see it as some one everyone thinks is a fool is actually more aware of his surroundings and smarter than he lets on.

8. Let It Be Lyric Video
A moving ballad about perseverance through rough times. Check out the soundtrack version from Across The Universe here, because a gospel choir really does make it better.

7. Happiness Is A Warm Gun Lyric Video
Love is like a drug and it can kill you. Or something sweeter in meaning, you decide. Across The Universe movie version Here. Salma Hayek’s bit part in the movie was great as a hallucination.

6. Hey Jude Lyric Video
Paul McCartney wrote this song for John Lennon’s son Julian. A classic everyone loves.

5. While My Guitar Gently Weeps Lyric Video
I can’t express how much I love this song. Movie version here.

4. All You Need Is Love Lyric Video
Awesome song that sums up life, all you need is love. And it samples the “she loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah” from She Love You (answer to an earlier question).

3. Across The Universe Lyric Video
Great song. Title of a great movie (which if you couldn’t tell, I highly recommend). Here’s a list of covers I enjoy:
Rufus Wainwright
Fiona Apple

2. The Long And Winding Road Lyric Video
Beautiful love song. No matter where I go or how far I am, love will always lead me back to you…Awesome.

And the number one spot goes to…. did you guess it?

1. A Day In The Life Lyric Video
There is so much going on in this song, but it works together perfectly. It is my favorite Beatles song of all time. It’s sad to start off, then there’s that rewinding sound, then another story, then culminates into a big ending…just great. It was the closing track to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. What a finish!

And there you have it. The best of Beatles in my opinion. I’ve been working on this all day and jamming out to the music. I hope everyone enjoys my picks and I’d love to hear yours!
